Cleveland Guardians vs Chicago Cubs Prediction 8-14-24 MLB Picks

The Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Guardians meet Wednesday in MLB action from Progressive Field. Here’s a Cleveland Guardians vs Chicago Cubs prediction. This will be the final installment in a three-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Guardians vs Cubs pick.

Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

The Cubs took on the Chicago White Sox over the weekend. In that matchup the Cubs were able to take both games over their in-city rivals, 7-6 and 3-1. After a 9-8 loss to Cleveland in the opener, on Tuesday Chicago took a low-scoring loss 2-1. Starter Javier Assad put up 4.2 innings with one earned run.

In the starter slot for the finale the Cubs will send out Jameson Taillon. This year Taillon is 8-6 with a 3.50 ERA in 20 starts. Taillon is 67-51 with a 3.95 ERA in 193 games (192 starts).

Cleveland Guardians Betting Preview

Over on the Cleveland side, they played the Minnesota Twins in their last series. The Guardians lost the first two games 4-2 and 6-3 before wins 2-1 and 5-3 for a tie series. On Tuesday the Guardians out-hit Chicago 6-5. Matthew Boyd managed 5.1 innings with one earned run as starter.

It’ll be Alex Cobb in the starter role for Cleveland Wednesday. This year Cobb is 0-1 with 4.2 innings and one K in his lone start. Cobb is 77-76 in his career with a 3.86 ERA in 231 starts.

Cleveland Guardians vs Chicago Cubs Prediction

I’ll lean toward Cleveland. Probably not touching this one, though. Taillon has one good start in his last three, posting one earned in 6.0 innings versus the Cardinals. In his other pair however, Taillon is 1-1 with 11 earned in 9.1 innings. As for Cobb, he didn’t start out well in his debut (4.2 innings; four earned).

On Tuesday the Guardians didn’t have too many offensive fireworks outside of Jhonkensy Noel’s solo homer but they got the job done. The pen was great too on 3.2 innings, two hits and no earned. I like Cleveland to keep it going Wednesday.
