The Houston Astros and the Cleveland Guardians meet Saturday in MLB action from Progressive Field. Here’s a Cleveland Guardians vs Houston Astros prediction. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Guardians vs Astros pick.

Houston Astros Betting Preview

Houston took on the Seattle Mariners in their last series. The Astros were only able to win one of those games, 4-3 on Tuesday. In Friday’s matchup versus Cleveland, Houston powered out the victory 5-2.

Justin Verlander will start for Houston on Saturday. This year Verlander is 4-6 with a 5.55 ERA in 16 starts. Verlander is 261-147 with a 3.30 ERA in 525 career starts.

Cleveland Guardians Betting Preview

Over on the Guardians’ side, they played a pair versus the Cincinnati Reds this week. Cleveland won both 6-1 and 5-2. In Friday’s game the Guardians gave up 13 hits.

It’ll be Ben Lively in the start Saturday. This season Lively is 13-9 with a 3.80 ERA in 28 starts. Lively is 21-26 with a 4.53 ERA over 73 career games (60 starts).

Total Runs Facts

  • Each of the Astros’ last six games as road underdogs have gone UNDER the total runs line.
  • Ten of the Guardians’ last 11 games as home favorites have gone UNDER the total runs line.
  • The ‘Inning 1 OVER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Guardians’ last five home games.
  • The ‘Inning 1 OVER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Astros’ last five night games at Progressive Field.

Cleveland Guardians vs Houston Astros Prediction

I’m leaning toward the Guardians. Lively is cooking lately. He’s got just one earned run over his last two starts, spanning 10.0 total innings. Lively is 2-0 in that pair. As for Verlander, he’s got two bad starts (a combined 7.2 innings and 14 earned runs) with one good start (5.0 innings; two earned in a win) in his last trio.

On Friday the Guardians fell behind 5-0 by the end of the fifth and only mustered three hits in the game. Erik Sabrowski closed out the game pretty well but overall the pitching was pretty rough too. Cleveland should bounce back Saturday behind Lively, though.
