Cleveland Guardians vs Tampa Bay Rays 9/28/22 MLB Picks, Predictions, Odds

Tampa Bay played the Blue Jays over the weekend, winning two of four games for a split. On Tuesday against Cleveland, the Rays scored two in the top of the 11th inning and hung on for the 6-5 win. Corey Kluber went 4.0 innings in the start with three earned on eight hits and a walk.

For the starter job on Wednesday, the Rays will send out Tyler Glasnow in his season debut. Last year Glasnow went 5-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 14 starts. Over 88.0 innings he had 123 Ks. 

Over on the Guardians’ side, they did well against the Rangers over the weekend and took a three-game sweep. On Tuesday, Cleveland out-hit the Rays 14-7 but couldn’t get the win. Shane Bieber managed 6.0 innings with four earned on six hits.

Triston McKenzie will take the mound for the Guardians on Wednesday. Over his 29 games (28 starts) McKenzie is 11-11 with a 3.04 ERA. In 180.1 innings he has 61 earned on 131 hits and 43 walks with 180 Ks. 

The Rays are 6-2 in their last eight in game two of a series and 15-7 in the last 22 Wednesday games. Tampa is 2-5 in their last seven road games.
Meanwhile, the Guardians are 7-2 in the last nine Wednesday games and 18-3 in their last 21 overall. Cleveland id 6-0 in the last six in game two of a series.

PICK: I’m going Cleveland. McKenzie has been working deep into games lately; over his last three starts he’s got 22.0 combined innings with five earned, going 7.0 frames or more in each. He should be able to put up another lengthy start here. As for Glasnow, it’ll be interesting to see him on the mound again. Glasnow will probably only be in there for 45 pitches or so however; it’ll be mostly a relief game. Should be fun.
