The New York Mets and the Colorado Rockies meet Saturday in MLB doubleheader action from Coors Field. This was originally scheduled to be the second installment in a three-game series, but Friday’s opener was postponed due to snow. We’ll have a doubleheader Saturday with anticipated start times of 3:10 and 8:40 p.m. ET. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

New York played the Cardinals this week. The Mets lost one of the Tuesday doubleheader games, but came back for victories on Wednesday and Thursday to take the series.

For the starter gig in the Saturday game one, New York will go with Carlos Carrasco. This year Carrasco is 3-1 with a 3.73 ERA and 35 strikeouts. As for game two, the Mets have penciled in Trevor Williams. In 2022 Williams is 0-2 with a 4.20 ERA and 15 Ks.

Over on the Colorado side, they didn’t have much luck against the Giants this week. The Rockies lost 7-6 on Monday then fell again 10-7 in game two. Colorado fended off the sweep with a 5-3 win on Wednesday, however.

It’s looking like German Marquez will take the start for Colorado in game one. Marquez is 1-3 this year with a 6.16 ERA. As for game two, Austin Gomber will take the mound for the Rockies. In his seven starts this year Gomber is 2-3 with a 4.38 ERA. In 39.0 innings he’s put up 35 hits, 19 earned runs, 13 walks and 32 Ks.

GAME 1 PICK: I’m probably leaning Rockies here. Carrasco hasn’t quite been perfect over his past couple of starts, with 15 hits, six earned and a walk in 11.0 innings. If Colorado can find some offense early (and if they get a good starting performance) I think they’ll be okay.

GAME 2 PICK: As for game two, I’m likely going to try the Mets. Williams has been solid over his last two appearances, with a combined 7.2 innings, six hits, one walk and zero earned runs. As for Gomber, he’s got eight earned on nine hits and five walks in 11.1 innings over his last two. New York should have some opportunities for offense.
