The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Detroit Tigers meet Sunday in MLB action from Comerica Park. This will be the finale in a three-game series. Arizona Diamondbacks 

The Diamondbacks scored seven runs in the seventh inning during the Friday opener of this series, cruising to an 11-6 victory. On Saturday Arizona posted three runs in the fifth inning during a 5-0 win. Starter Ryne Nelson put up 5.2 innings with four hits and two walks. 

For the starter job in the Sunday game the Diamondbacks will send out Zac Gallen. This year over his 13 starts Gallen is 7-2 with a 2.75 ERA and 88 Ks in 78.2 innings. Gallen is 29-24 with a 3.04 ERA in 94 career starts. 

Detroit Tigers 

Over on the Tigers’ side, they posted 11 team hits in the Friday loss but couldn’t overcome the bad inning. On Saturday Detroit had six hits in the loss. Matthew Boyd lasted 5.0 frames with five earned on six hits and two walks. 

It’ll be Joey Wentz in the starting role Sunday for the Tigers. This year in 12 starts Wentz is 1-6 with a 7.49 ERA and 44 Ks in 51.2 innings. Wentz is 3-8 with a 5.76 ERA in 19 career starts. 

The Diamondbacks are 5-2 in their last seven in game three of a series and 5-2 in their last seven interleague games versus a lefty starter. The over is 5-2 in Arizona’s last seven Sunday games. 

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 29-61 in their last 90 Sunday games and the under is 40-17-1 in their last 58 Sunday games. The over is 5-2-1 in Detroit’s last eight versus the NL West.

I’ll stay with the Diamondbacks in this one. Gallen is on a solid run these days. In his last three starts, Gallen has 17.2 combined innings with four earned on 19 hits and five walks. Wentz, meanwhile, has 11 earned over his last 13.0 innings. On Saturday Arizona had a couple of big innings and pretty much cruised after the fifth—it wasn’t a huge offensive effort but it got the job done. I like the Diamondbacks to complete the sweep here.
