The Cleveland Guardians and the Detroit Tigers meet Friday in MLB action from Comerica Park. This will be the second installment in a four-game weekend series. In the Thursday opener, Detroit eked out a one-run victory in a walk-off. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Cleveland had some trouble with the Astros this week, winning Monday before losses 7-3 Tuesday and 2-1 Wednesday. In the Thursday game versus the Tigers, Cleveland gave up a walk-off win 4-3. Starter Konnor Pilkington lasted 3.1 innings with three earned on seven hits and four walks.
For the starter job in the Friday game the Guardians will send out Shane Bieber. Across his eight starts this year Bieber is 1-3 with a 3.55 ERA. Over 45.2 innings of work he’s posted 43 hits, 18 earned, 14 walks and 46 Ks.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they lost to the Twins 5-4 Monday and 2-0 Tuesday before a 4-2 Wednesday victory that staved off the sweep. On Thursday, Detroit got the winning single from Miguel Cabrera. Tarik Skubal lasted 7.0 innings in the start with three earned on five hits and a walk.
Alex Faedo will take the mound for the Tigers on Friday. Over four starts this year Faedo is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA. In 21.0 innings Faedo has 22 hits, seven earned, six walks and 14 strikeouts to his credit.
The Guardians are 3-8 in their last 11 Friday games and 1-5 in their last six in game two of a series. The under is 4-1 in Cleveland’s last five in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 47-123 in their last 180 versus the AL Central and 5-11 in their last 16 in game two of a series. Detroit is 16-40 in their last 56 Friday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Tigers. Faedo has looked pretty solid so far this year. In his last three games he’s got five earned on 14 hits and five walks in 16.0 innings. As for Bieber, he had a blowup game versus Toronto (3.1 innings; seven earned) on May 7 but he’s been solid in his two starts since with 13.0 innings and three earned. This one looks like a fun pitching matchup; if Detroit can get some offense going I could see them bagging another W.
