Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Indians MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 8/7/2021

The Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians meet in an AL Central division matchup in MLB action from Progressive Field on Saturday.

The Detroit Tigers will look to rebound from a 6-1 loss at the hands of the Indians on Friday. Jeimer Candelario accounted for the lone RBI for Detroit in the loss while Akil Baddoo and Jonathan Schoop each had two hits. Harold Castro and Miguel Cabrera each had hits as well as the Tigers had seven hits, none of which went for extra bases in the loss. Matt Manning took the loss, falling to 2-5 on the year after allowing all six runs on ten hits with three K’s over four innings of work. Tyler Alexander will start here and is 1-1 with a 4.77 ERA and 45 strikeouts this season.

The Cleveland Indians will attempt to build on their win over the Tigers from Friday. Bobby Bradley had two hits with a double and two RBIs while Myles Straw and Amed Rosario also had two RBIs to make up the scoring for the Tribe in the win. Jose Ramirez, Harold Ramirez and Eddie Clement each had a double as well with Clement going 3 for 4 at the dish while Harold Ramirez had a pair of hits. Austin Hedges had a pair of hits and Bradley Zimmer added a base knock as well to finish off Cleveland’s offense as a team in the victory. Cal Quantrill got the win to improve to 3-2 on the year after tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out ten. Eli Morgan will start here and is 1-3 with a 6.75 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season.

Detroit is 45-102 in their last 147 division games and 39-86 in their last 125 games as a road underdog while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall. Cleveland is 11-5 in their last 16 games as a favorite and 4-9 in their last 13 game two matchups while the over is 14-3 in their last 17 home games against a left-handed starter.

Simply put, I have no faith in either of these starting pitchers as Tyler Alexander just doesn’t feel major league ready from a lot of what I’ve seen while Eli Morgan’s been rocked left and right this season. I think we could have a shootout on our hands in this one, so give me the over.
