The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers meet Monday in MLB action from Comerica Park. Minnesota is coming off a series versus the Royals over the weekend. The Twins lost two of the first three games, then on Sunday Minnesota bagged a four-run win. As for the Tigers, they just finished up against the Guardians. After a split in the first two games, in the Sunday rubber match the Tigers eked out a one-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Minnesota posted a 3-2 loss in the Thursday opener of the Royals series, then won 10-7 Friday and lost 7-3 Saturday. In the Sunday finale, the Twins posted 11 team hits in a 7-3 win. Sonny Gray went 6.0 innings in the start with one earned on two hits alongside four Ks.
For the starter gig in the Monday game, the Twins will send out Dylan Bundy. Over seven starts this year Bundy is 3-2 with a 4.54 ERA. In his 33.2 innings Bundy has 35 hits, 17 earned, eight walks and 31 Ks.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they eked out a 4-3 win Thursday before a rough loss 8-1 in the Saturday game. On Sunday, the Tigers were out-hit 7-4 but still pulled off the 2-1 win. Elvin Rodriguez put up 4.0 clean innings with two hits and four strikeouts.
Beau Brieske will make the start for the Tigers on Monday. Across his six starts Brieske is 0-4 with a 5.04 ERA. In 30.1 innings Brieske has 30 hits, 17 earned runs, 12 walks and 18 Ks to his credit.
The Twins are 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series and 21-8 in their last 29 Monday games. Minnesota is 7-3 in their last 10 overall.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 19-40 in their last 59 Monday games and 94-199 in their last 293 versus a team with a winning record. Detroit is 10-22 in their last 32 overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on the Tigers. Brieske has had some rough outings this year, including six earned in 5.1 innings during a loss to Tampa Bay on May 17. In the other two of his last three starts however, Brieske has 10.0 innings with four earned on 10 hits and four walks. If Brieske can get through a quality start here I think Detroit has a decent chance at a victory in game one.
