The Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals meet Tuesday in MLB action from Kauffman Stadium. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. On Monday in the opener of this set, the Tigers pulled off a three-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Detroit Tigers
The Tigers took on the Nationals over the weekend, winning Friday before a pair of losses in the next two. On Monday versus KC, Detroit scored three in the top of the 10th in a tense 8-5 victory. Starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen put up 5.2 innings with five earned on five hits and two walks.
For the starter job in the Tuesday game the Tigers are sending out Eduardo Rodriguez. Over nine starts so far Rodriguez is 4-3 with a 2.06 ERA and 52 Ks in 56.2 innings. He’s 73-47 with a 4.03 career ERA in 185 games (179 starts).
Kansas City Royals
Over on the Kansas City side, they had no luck against the White Sox over the weekend and fell in a sweep. On Monday the Royals came back from a 5-3 deficit but ultimately couldn’t pull off the win. Brady Singer went 3.2 innings in the start with five earned on seven hits and four walks.
As the starting pitcher in game two, it'll be Mike Mayers for the Royals. This year in his lone appearance Mayers has 2.2 innings with one earned on two hits and four walks. This will be a hefty bullpen game for Kansas City.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll likely take a stab on Detroit here. Rodriguez had a bit of a choppy start against Pittsburgh his last time out (5.0 innings; four earned on six hits and two walks) but he’d been on a nice run before that. In his prior pair Rodriguez managed a combined 15.0 innings, zero earned, six hits and three walks, going 2-0 in that time. On Monday the Tigers bagged 11 team hits and got a nice bullpen performance. The relievers combined for 4.1 innings, zero hits, zero earned, three walks and four Ks.
