LA Angels vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction 5-1-24 Picks

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Angels meet Wednesday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a LA Angels vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The Philadelphia Phillies will start Zack Wheeler here and Wheeler is 2-3 with a 1.93 ERA and 46 strikeouts this season. In his career, Wheeler is 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA and 14 strikeouts against the Angels. Los Angeles will send Patrick Sandoval to the mound here, and Sandoval is 1-4 with a 6.33 ERA and 28 strikeouts this season. This will be Sandoval’s second career start against the Phillies.

Philadelphia Phillies Recap

The Philadelphia Phillies come into this one looking to finish the series strong heading into their weekend home set with the San Francisco Giants. The Phillies have been on quite the roll as of late after sweeping the Padres this past weekend and earning a split at Great American Ballpark against the Reds.

Phillies Rolling Offensively

Entering Tuesday, Trea Turner leads the Phillies with 43 hits including 10 doubles and 7 stolen bases with a .344 batting average while Kyle Schwarber has a team-high 7 home runs with 44 strikeouts this season. Bryce Harper’s added 5 doubles, 6 home runs and 18 RBIs while Alec Bohm has a team-high 29 RBIs as well as a team-high 12 doubles of his own and Brandon Marsh also has 6 home runs and 17 RBIs this season.

Los Angeles Angels Recap

The Angels could use all the positive vibes they can get with the news that Mike Trout will be out for the foreseeable future with an injury, and that’s not great news with a road series with the Cleveland Guardians looming. And following up series losses to the Twins, Orioles and Reds.

Ward Needs To Shoulder Offensive Load With Trout On Shelf

Going into Tuesday’s matchup, Taylor Ward leads the Angels with 32 hits along with 7 home runs and a team-high 23 RBIs. Mike Trout has a team-high 10 home runs along with a pair of triples and 6 stolen bases while Zach Neto has a team-high 32 strikeouts and 4 stolen bases. Luis Rengifo also has a team-high 8 stolen bases as well.

LA Angels vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction

I’m on the Phillies here. Wheeler is just the far better option and while run support at times has proven to be problematic for Wheeler, I don’t think that should happen in this one. Patrick Sandoval’s really struggled with control and has given up a lot to opposing teams this season, and I think that with the way the Phillies have been hitting against lefties this season, he could be in some hot water. As long as Philadelphia’s bullpen doesn’t crumble, this should be a fairly straightforward win for the Phillies. Give me Philadelphia in this one.
