The Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels meet in an AL West division matchup in MLB action from Angel Stadium on Friday night.
The Houston Astros will look to build on their 5-3 win over the Rangers in their series finale on Wednesday. Alex Bregman has 120 hits with 34 doubles, 20 home runs and 77 RBIs. Yordan Alvarez has a team-high 31 home runs and 80 RBIs and Kyle Tucker has 22 home runs and 84 RBIs as well this season. Jeremy Pena also has a .246 batting average with 16 home runs and 45 RBIs of his own this season. Jose Altuve also has 122 hits with 31 doubles, 22 homers and 48 RBIs. Lance McCullers Jr. will start here and is 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 13 strikeouts this season.
The Los Angeles Angels will look to build on their series win over the Yankees with a 3-2 win on Wednesday. Mike Trout has 89 hits, 18 doubles, 58 RBIs and 28 home runs while Jared Walsh has 44 RBIs and Shohei Ohtani has 126 hits while adding 20 doubles, 30 home runs and 82 RBIs. Taylor Ward also has a .252 batting average as well this season. Reid Detmers will start here and is 5-4 with a 3.47 ERA and 99 strikeouts this season.
Houston is 5-2 in their last 7 road games and 47-23 in their last 70 games overall while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 series-opening games. Los Angeles is 13-29 in their last 42 home games and 8-19 in their last 27 series-opening games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 division games.
I get the reasoning for wanting to be on either side here as the Angels have provided value in some spots over the last couple of weeks and Detmers has been a solid option for the Halos in spots while the Astros are the far better team and McCullers Jr. looked to have fit right in without missing a beat. That being said, this isn’t a bad price all things considered for the Astros and I just think you have a team that is getting ready for a playoff run in Houston going against an Angels team that’s just playing out the string and isn’t even interested in playing spoiler. I’ll side with the Astros in this one.
