The Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels meet Tuesday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. Texas is coming off a weekend series versus the Astros. The Rangers lost three of four games in that set. As for the Angels, they played Oakland over the weekend. LA managed two wins in three games for a series victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Texas didn’t have much luck versus the Astros over the weekend. The Rangers lost 5-1 in the Thursday game, then came back for a 3-0 win on Friday. Texas would lose the next pair of games, however: 2-1 on Saturday and 5-2 in the Sunday matchup.
For the starter gig in the Tuesday game, the Rangers will send out Dane Dunning. In eight starts this year Dunning is 1-2 with a 3.92 ERA. In 43.2 innings he has 37 hits, 19 earned runs, 16 walks and 43 Ks.
Over on the Angels’ side, they lost the the Athletics 4-2 on Friday in their series opener. Los Angeles managed a 5-3 win in the Saturday game two, then finished off a series win with a 4-1 victory on Sunday.
Noah Syndergaard will take the mound for the Angels on Tuesday. In his six starts this year Syndergaard is 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA. Over 30.0 innings Syndergaard has 29 hits with 12 earned runs, eight walks and 22 Ks.
The Rangers are 23-47 in their last 70 in game one of a series and 23-59 in the last 82 road games. Texas is 15-42 in their last 57 after an off day.
Meanwhile, the Angels are 11-3 in their last 14 at home and 1-7 in their last eight after an off day. The under is 3-1-1 in LA’s last five after a win.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Rangers. Dunning hasn’t pitched too badly over his last three games—outside of 5.2 innings, five earned, six hits and two walks in a loss to Boston on May 13. In the other pair, Dunning has just three earned in 12.0 innings on five hits and six walks. As for Syndergaard, he’s coming off a rough start but should bounce back here pretty well. With Dunning on the mound though, I think Texas will at least have a shot at pulling off a W in game one.
