The Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels meet Wednesday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. This will be the second installment in a quick two-game set. In the opener on Tuesday, the Angels powered out a two-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Texas played the Astros over the weekend and didn’t fare too well with three losses in four games. On Tuesday versus the Angels, the Rangers had six hits and couldn’t score until the eighth in a 5-3 loss. Dane Dunning lasted 6.1 innings in the start with five earned on 11 hits and a walk.
For the starter job in the Wednesday game, the Rangers will go with Glenn Otto. In five starts so far this year Otto is 1-2 with a 5.55 ERA. In 24.1 innings he’s put up 23 hits, 15 earned runs, 13 walks and 18 Ks.
Over on the Angels’ side, they lost to the A’s on Friday but then took the series with wins in the weekend games. On Tuesday, LA finished on 12 team hits on the way to the win. Noah Syndergaard had a great start with 8.0 innings, one earned and four hits.
Reid Detmers will take the mound for the Angels on Wednesday. Over his seven starts so far Detmers is 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA. In 34.2 innings he’s posted 16 earned on 21 hits and 10 walks alongside 24 Ks.
PICK: I’m going to try the Angels. Probably staying away from this one, though. Detmers followed up his complete-game shutout on May 10 with a rough game at Globe Life, giving up three earned on three hits and two walks in 3.2 innings. Outside of the shutout, Detmers has given up six earned in a 9.1-inning span over his last trio. As for Otto, he had a rough game versus the Red Sox May 14 but bounced back in a tough loss to Houston. This should be a fun pitching battle but offensively the Angels probably have control.
