The Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels meet in an AL West division matchup in MLB action from Angel Stadium on Saturday night.
The Texas Rangers will look to rebound from a 3-2 loss at the hands of the Angels on Friday. Jason Martin had a pair of hits with a two-run home run to plate the lone pair of runs for the Rangers in the losing effort. Nick Solak had three hits while Adolis Garcia, Nate Lowe and DJ Peters each had a base hit as well to finish off the Rangers’ offense as a team in the defeat. Glenn Otto allowed two runs on four hits while striking out four over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Dennis Santana took the loss in relief to fall to 2-4 on the year as a result. Kolby Allard will start here and is 3-11 with a 5.01 ERA and 86 strikeouts this season.
The Los Angeles Angels will attempt to build on their narrow win over the Rangers from Friday. Phil Gosselin and Jared Walsh each went 2 for 4 with an RBI while Max Stassi had an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for the Angels. Jo Adell and David Fletcher each had a pair of hits while Brandon Marsh added a double to cap off the offense for the Halos in the win. Shohei Ohtani got the win to improve to 9-1 on the mound after allowing two runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts over seven innings of work. Raisel Iglesias closed out the 9th for his 30th save of the season Jose Suarez will start here and is 5-7 with a 4.10 ERA and 61 strikeouts this season.
Texas is 18-37 in their last 55 game two matchups and 16-37 in their last 53 division games while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games as a road underdog. Los Angeles is 7-16 in their last 23 division games and 4-10 in their last 14 game two matchups while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a left-handed starter.
This is a tough game to call as I really want nothing to do with either team and the total could go either way too as both are struggling with offensive consistency, but the starting pitching matchup here is awful. I’m going to lean towards the over as both teams could plate some runs here and like I said, Kolby Allard and Jose Suarez are two starting pitchers I want nothing to do with.
