The Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet Friday in MLB action from Dodger Stadium. This will be the second installment in a four-game weekend series. Colorado Rockies 

The Rockies took on the Brewers this week, winning 7-3 on Tuesday but otherwise falling 12-1 and 7-6 for a series defeat. In Thursday’s matchup versus the Dodgers, Colorado had just four hits in a 2-1 loss. Elehuris Montero was responsible for the only scoring with a solo homer, while Jurickson Profar, Ezequiel Tovar and Alan Trejo each had  hit. 

In the starter job for the Friday game it’ll be Colorado’s Austin Gomber. This year over his 23 starts Gomber is 9-8 with a 5.40 ERA and 79 Ks in 120.0 innings. Gomber is 4-1 in his last seven starts, posting a 2.51 ERA and 12 earned in 43.0 innings.

Over on the Dodgers’ side, they played a pair against the Diamondbacks this week. Los Angeles managed wins in both of those, taking the games 5-4 and 2-0. In game one against Colorado, Los Angeles didn’t score until the seventh inning. Max Muncy posted a solo homer and both RBI, while Jason Heyward scored the run. 

Lance Lynn will take the mound for the starting role Friday for Los Angeles. This year Lynn is 8-9 with a 6.11 ERA in 23 starts. He’s got 157 Ks in 132.2 innings total. Lynn is 2-1 over his last five starts, posting a 6.67 ERA with 22 earned in 29.2 innings.

I’m going to take a stab on the Rockies in this one. Gomber is pitching quite well these days. He’s got just two earned runs over 18.0 innings in his last three starts combined, posting 18 hits and five walks along the way. As for Lynn, he struggled a bit in his final July start (4.2 innings; seven earned) but has since gone 2-0 with 13.0 innings and just four earned. I like both starters to at least flirt with quality outings on Friday. In the opener, Colorado had a bad offensive evening again with just the one run. That makes one run scored in three of the last five games. The Rockies have a combined 13 runs in the other pair however, so they can certainly score when motivated. I think there’s a reasonable chance Colorado could surprise in game two.
