Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Oakland Athletics Prediction 8-1-23 MLB Picks

The Oakland A’s and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet in game one of a three-game interleague series in MLB action from Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night. This game looks like a mismatch on paper, but will it play out that way? Let’s dig in and find out.

A’s Take Two Of Three From Rockies

The Oakland A’s aren’t a team that’s going to win many more games the rest of the way, but they look determined to not make history as the team that would hold the worst record in major league history after winning two of three in Colorado. The A’s couldn’t complete the sweep though, falling 2-0 in Sunday’s series finale, dropping the A’s to 30-77 on the year and still holding on to the worst record in baseball, trailing the KC Royals by 2 games in that department. Brent Rooker leads the A’s with 17 home runs and 47 RBIs this season, while Esteury Ruiz has 86 hits, a .257 batting average and a team-best 43 stolen bases but continues to miss time with a shoulder injury. Ryan Noda, Seth Brown and Shea Langeliers also have double-digit home runs for the A’s this season, while Ruiz also leads the A’s in doubles with 19. The A’s did not have a starting pitcher confirmed at the time that this article was posted.

Dodgers Drop Back-To-Back Series

The Dodgers are still viewed by many to be the expected NL West division winner once again, but Los Angeles has hit a bit of a rough patch as of late, dropping back-to-back series after a 9-0 beatdown loss to the Cincinnati Reds in Sunday’s series finale. The loss sent the Dodgers to 59-45 on the year, still 2.5 games ahead of the Giants in the NL West race. Mookie Betts leads the Dodgers with 27 home runs in addition to 68 RBIs while Max Muncy is right alongside with 27 homers of his own and 70 RBIs. J.D. Martinez has 25 home runs to go along with his team-best 75 RBIs while Freddie Freeman has a team-high 136 hits, a .329 batting average and a team-high 35 doubles in addition to 21 home runs and 73 RBIs. Lance Lynn is slated to make his Dodgers debut here and is 6-9 with a 6.47 ERA and 144 strikeouts this season.

Chris’ Pick

I’m leaning towards the over here. I don’t think there’s going to be a whole lot of value with the Dodgers against the A’s to begin with, but even more so because it’s likely an extreme price with Lance Lynn. Lynn and the White Sox struggled, but it’s not as if Lynn pitched overly well and the White Sox didn’t back him up. A lot of times Lynn did a lot of damage that was hard for him or his team to come back from. Luckily he’ll have a better shot if that happens now being in L.A., but I still think there will be lots of runs in this game so give me the over.
