The Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins meet Sunday in MLB action from Marlins Park. This will be the final installment in a three-game weekend series. Atlanta posted three runs in the first inning Friday, powering out a 5-3 victory. In the Saturday game two, the Braves logged nine hits on the way to a 4-3 win that got tense during the last frame. Kyle Wright lasted 5.0 clean frames in the start with two hits and three walks.
For the starter job in the Sunday matchup, the Braves are going with Ian Anderson. In his seven starts so far Anderson is 3-2 with a 3.75 ERA. Across 36.0 innings total Anderson has 30 hits, 15 earned runs, 18 walks and 25 strikeouts.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they out-hit the Braves 10-9 on Friday but still took the loss. In the Saturday game, Miami showed some life in the bottom of the ninth but ultimately couldn’t complete the comeback. Starter Elieser Hernandez managed 5.0 innings with one earned on three hits and a walk.
Sandy Alcantara will be the starter for the Marlins on Sunday. In his eight starts so far this year Alcantara is 3-2 with a 2.49 ERA. Over 50.2 innings total Alcantara has 36 hits, 14 earned runs, 20 walks and 42 Ks.
The Braves are 1-4 in their last five in game three of a series and 1-6 in their last seven Sunday games. Atlanta is 21-9 in their last 30 versus the NL East.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 5-13 in their last 18 overall and 3-11 in the last 14 versus a right-handed starter. The over is 6-0 in Miami’s last six in game three of a series.
PICK: I’m going to go Marlins here. Alcantara is doing well lately; over his last pair of starts he’s put up a combined two earned on five hits and four walks in 15.0 innings. If he can keep it up, Alcantara should be able to keep things manageable in game three. Anderson should be solid on the other side as well; he’s got just one earned run in two of his last three starts, hitting 5.1 innings or more in each. Should be a great starter matchup and a fun way to end the series.
