The Kansas City Royals and the Miami Marlins meet Tuesday in MLB action from Marlins Park.  This will be the second installment in a three-game series. In the Monday opener, the Marlins posted a three-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Kansas City Royals 

The Royals played the Rockies over the weekend, losing the first pair before a Sunday win 2-0. On Monday versus Miami, KC blew a 4-0 lead and ended up losing 9-6. Starting pitcher Carlos Hernandez lasted 2.0 clean frames with zero hits, zero walks and three Ks. 

For the starter job in the Tuesday game the Royals will go with Zack Greinke. This year Greinke is 1-5 with a 4.19 ERA and 47 Ks in 62.1 innings over 12 starts. Greinke is 224-146 with a 3.44 ERA in 568 career games (526 starts). 

Miami Marlins 

The Marlins didn’t have a ton of trouble with the A’s over the weekend, winning 4-0, 12-1 and 7-5 for a sweep. On Monday Miami scored all their runs in the third through the sixth innings. Braxton Garrett put up 5.0 innings in the start with four earned on six hits. 

It’ll be Jesus Luzardo for the start on Tuesday for Miami. Over 12 starts this year Luzardo is 4-4 with a 4.05 ERA and 78 Ks in 66.2 innings. Luzardo is 17-22 with a 4.48 ERA in 73 career games (57 starts). 

The Royals are 20-48 in their last 68 overall and 6-15 in their last 21 interleague games. Kansas City is 5-12 in their last 17 versus a lefty starter. 

Meanwhile, the Marlins are 5-1 in their last six in game two of a series and the under is 35-13-3 in their last 51 in game two of a series. The under is 16-7 in Miami’s last 23 Tuesday games.

I’ll stick with the Marlins. Probably staying away though, as Luzardo has been choppy lately. In two of his last three, Luzardo has 11 earned runs in 10.1 combined innings. In the other start he’s got 5.0 innings with just one earned. On Monday the Marlins had a nice offensive evening in the comeback, ultimately posting 11 team hits. I like Miami to keep it going in game two.
