The St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers meet Sunday in MLB action from American Family Field. This will be the final installment in a three-game weekend set. St. Louis took a big victory in the Friday opener. In the Saturday game, the Brewers pulled off a shutout win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
St. Louis jumped out to a big lead in the Friday game and notched 12 team hits on the way to a 15-4 win. In the Saturday game two, the Cardinals had just three hits in a 4-0 defeat. Starter Kwang-hyun Kim put up 1.2 innings with four earned on seven hits and a walk.
For the starting pitcher slot in the Sunday finale the Cardinals will send out Jon Lester. This year over 75.1 innings of work Lester has 91 hits, 50 runs (42 earned), 14 homers allowed, 29 walks, 51 Ks and a 5.02 ERA.
Over on the Brewers’ side, they gave up eight runs across the first three innings Friday, creating a hole they couldn’t climb out of. On Saturday, Milwaukee scored four runs in the first two innings. Adrian Houser did the rest with a complete-game shutout, posting three hits and seven Ks.
Starting pitcher for Milwaukee on Sunday will be Corbin Burnes. In his 139.0 innings so far Burnes has 104 hits, 37 runs (35 earned), five homers allowed, 26 walks, 189 Ks and a 2.27 ERA overall.
The Cardinals are 5-1 in their last six in game three of a series and 5-2 in their last seven Sunday games. The over is 8-2 in the Cardinals’ last 10 in game three of a series and the under is 6-2 in their last eight road games with a total of 9.0-10.5.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games and 20-7 in their last 27 in game three of a series. Milwaukee is 31-15 in their last 46 versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30 and the under is 5-1 in their last six Sunday games.
PICK: I’m going to take the Brewers. Burnes had an up-and-down outing versus the Reds back on August 24 with 6.0 innings, seven hits and four earned, but other than that he’s been great over his last five starts. In the other four Burnes has just two combined earned runs. Lester has one earned run in three of his last four, so I like both starters to do well here in a lower-scoring game. Should be a fun one.
