The Milwaukee Brewers and the Washington Nationals meet in game one of a double-header in MLB action from Nationals Park on Saturday.
The Washington Nationals will look to start the double-header with a win after Friday’s postponement, making it two double-headers in a span of three days for the Nats after splitting Thursday’s double dip with Cincinnati. Trea Turner leads the Nationals with a .316 batting average, 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and 59 hits with a team-high 9 doubles as well while Juan Soto has a .401 OBP. Kyle Schwarber sits 2nd with 22 RBIs and Josh Bell is close behind with 20 RBIs but Schwarber also leads the Nationals with 48 strikeouts at the plate this season. Patrick Corbin will start this one and is 3-3 with a 6.13 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. In his career, Corbin is 2-5 with a 4.70 ERA and 57 strikeouts against Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to build on their win over the Padres from Thursday but Friday’s postponement didn’t give the Brewers a chance to carry it over. Kolten Wong has a .273 batting average and a .346 OBP and 10 doubles to lead the Brewers in doubles while Avisail Garcia has a team-high 39 hits and 8 home runs while 2nd on the team with 25 RBIs. Travis Shaw has a team-high 26 RBIs while Jackie Bradley Jr. has a pair of triples but also has a team-high 53 strikeouts this season. Freddy Peralta will start here and is 4-1 with a 2.54 ERA and 76 strikeouts this season. This will be Peralta’s second career start against the Nationals.
Washington is 5-2 in their last 7 home games and 1-6 in their last 7 games following an off day while the under is 8-2-1 in their last 11 opening games of a double-header. Milwaukee is 21-8 in their last 29 Saturday games and 1-6 in their last 7 game one matchups while the over is 12-5-1 in their last 18 games against a team with a losing record.
I find myself truing to talk myself into taking a shot with the Nats at home with Corbin, but he’s struggled this season and he’s had issues with Milwaukee in his career, Peralta is still one of my favorite young pitchers in the game and I think he leads the Brewers to a win in this one.
