The Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox meet Monday in MLB action from Guaranteed Rate Field. The Twins played the Indians over the weekend in a three-game set. Minnesota split the first two games, then on Sunday in the rubber match the Twins won by six runs. As for the Sox, they played the Mariners in their last series. Chicago lost 9-3 on Friday then had a suspended game on Saturday. On Sunday, the Sox bagged a nice two-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Minnesota posted a 4-1 loss on Thursday but came back for a 8-7 victory Friday. Saturday’s matchup was postponed due to weather. In the Sunday game, the Twins put up seven runs in the first four innings on the way to an 8-2 result. JA Happ went 6.0 innings with two earned on six hits.
For the Monday starting pitcher role, the Twins will send out Kenta Maeda. Over his 52.0 innings this year, Maeda has 60 hits, 33 runs (28 earned), 11 homers allowed, 15 walks, 50 Ks and a 4.85 ERA overall.
Over on the White Sox’ side, they fell 9-3 in the Friday game to the Mariners, then had a suspended game Saturday. On Sunday, Chicago finished the suspended game with a 3-2 loss, but managed a 7-5 win in the Sunday matchup.
For the starter job in the Monday game, the Sox are going with Lucas Giolito. Over his 87.2 innings this year, Giolito has 67 hits, 40 runs (37 earned), 17 homers, 29 walks, 110 strikeouts and a 3.80 ERA overall.
The Twins are 2-5 in their last seven in game one of a series and 6-13 in their last 19 with the total set at 7.0-8.5. The over is 19-4-3 in Minnesota’s last 26 versus the AL Central and 18-7-1 in their last 27 road games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Twins. This should be a pretty nice starter matchup regardless, though. Giolito has seven earned runs over his last 18.0 innings in three starts, with 23 strikeouts in that span. As for Maeda, he has three earned in 9.1 innings over his last pair. I like both guys to pitch well in a lower-scoring game that Minnesota ekes out.
