The Blue Jays took on the rival Boston Red Sox in their last series and managed a 2-2 split over four games. On Friday in the opener versus the Twins, Toronto took a shutout loss 2-0. Starter Kevin Gausman finished with 5.2 innings and two earned runs.

In the starter slot for the Jays on Saturday will be Jose Berrios. This year Berrios is 13-9 with a 3.72 ERA in 27 starts. In his career, Berrios is 96-75 with a 4.10 ERA in 239 games (238 starts).

Over on the Twins’ side, they had a rough series versus the Atlanta Braves this week, falling in three straight games. On Friday Minnesota was out-hit 7-4 but still managed to win. Starting pitcher Pablo Lopez left after 7.2 clean frames, six hits, and no walks.

It’ll be Zebby Matthews as a starter for Minnesota on Saturday. So far Matthews is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in the first three starts of his career.

Minnesota Twins vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction

I’m leaning toward the Jays. Berrios is on a good run right now. In his last three starts, he’s got just five earned in 21.2 innings, going 3-0 in that time. Berrios has hit 7.0 innings or more in each of those outings. As for Matthews, he’s doing fairly well himself with five earned in his last (and his only) 15.0 innings.

On Friday the Blue Jays only gave up runs in one inning. The real issue was the offense; there were a few opportunities here and there but Toronto ultimately couldn’t get anything going. The Jays need a nice bounce-back effort at the plate Saturday.
