The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves meet Wednesday in MLB action from SunTrust Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game set between these teams this week. New York played a one-off game versus the Nationals on Monday, falling 8-4. In the Tuesday opener versus the Braves, the Mets bagged all their runs in the seventh during a 4-3 win. Starter Tyler Megill put up 5.0 innings with three earned on five hits and two walks.
For the starter job in the Wednesday game, the Mets will send out David Peterson. Over his 63.2 innings this year Peterson has 56 hits, 38 runs (35 earned), 10 homers allowed, 28 walks, 67 Ks and a 4.95 ERA.
Over on the Braves’ side, they played four games versus the Reds over the weekend, managing a split with wins Friday and Sunday. In the Tuesday game, Atlanta had a 3-0 lead heading into the seventh but couldn’t hold it. Charlie Morton gave up three earned over 6.0 innings on five this and a walk.
For the starter job in the Wednesday game, the Braves are going with Max Fried. Over his 57.2 innings this year, Fried has 29 runs (27 earned), six homers allowed, 20 walks, 55 Ks and a 4.21 ERA overall.
The Mets are 4-0 in their last four Wedneday games and 6-1 in their last seven in game two of a series. New York is 17-35 in their last 52 road games versus a lefty starter and 2-5 in their last seven versus a left-handed starter.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 0-5 in their last five Wednesday games and 7-1 in their last eight with the total set at 11.0 or higher. The over is 13-5 in Atlanta’s last 18 with the total set at 9.0-10.5 and 34-14-3 in their last 51 at home with a total of 7.0-8.5.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Mets. Peterson has been pretty solid over is last three starts, posting two earned on six hits in a span of 16.2 innings. As for Fried, he’s been good himself with one earned in two of his last three outings. He’s also gone at least 6.0 innings in three straight. Should be a fun starter matchup, but I think New York can eke one out.
