The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves meet in an NL East division matchup from Truist Park on Thursday.
The New York Mets will look to rebound from being on the wrong end of a 20-2 rout at the hand of the Braves on Wednesday. Pete Alonso had a home run and both of New York’s RBIs in the loss while Kevin Pillar added a double. Luis Guillorme and James McCann each had a base hit as well to cap off the offense as the Mets had just four hits as a team in the losing effort. David Peterson took the loss, falling to 2-6 on the year after allowing five earned runs on eight hits over three innings of work. Jacob deGrom will start here and is 7-2 with a 0.69 ERA and 122 strikeouts this season. In his career, deGrom is 9-7 with a 1.88 ERA and 187 strikeouts against Atlanta.
The Atlanta Braves will look to build on their offensive onslaught on Wednesday. Ozzie Albies led the way by going 5 for 6 with two home runs and seven RBIs while Austin Riley had three RBIs. Guillermo Heredia and Ehire Adrianza each had two RBIs with Adrianza belting a solo home run while Heredia had a pair of doubles. Freddie Freeman had three hits with a double and an RBI and Ronald Acuna Jr. had a solo home run while Abraham Almonte added a double and an RBI. Kevan Smith, Ender Inciarte and Pablo Sandoval each had a base hit as well to finish off Atlanta’s scoring as a team in the win. Max Fried got the win to improve to 5-4 on the year after allowing two runs on three hits while striking out seven over five innings of work. Ian Anderson will start here and is 5-4 with a 3.42 ERA and 88 strikeouts this season. In his career, Anderson is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA and 19 strikeouts against the Mets.
New York is 22-7 in their last 29 games as a favorite and 2-5 in their last 7 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 game three matchups. Atlanta is 3-7 in their last 10 division games and 1-4 in their last 5 games as an underdog while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall.
The plus money with a home dog is tempting, and especially one with the talent that Atlanta has throughout the lineup. However, even at this price, it feels like a steal for a pitcher like deGrom, who has easily been the best in the league this season. It’s a lean, which is weird to say in a deGrom game, but this line feels a bit funny. Still, it’s too good of a price with the Mets and deGrom to pass on. Give me New York here.
