Miami played the Nationals over the weekend, winning the first pair before a 6-1 Sunday loss. On Tuesday versus the Mets, the Marlins jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings and took the 6-4 win. Pablo Lopez managed 6.0 innings in the start with three earned on five hits and five Ks.
As starter for the Tuesday game it’ll be Jesus Luzardo. In his 16 starts so far Luzardo is 3-7 with a 3.57 ERA. In 88.1 innings total he has 35 earned on 61 hits and 32 walks alongside 102 Ks.
Over on the Mets’ side, they lost to the A’s on Saturday but won the other two games for a series victory. On Tuesday the Mets scored three in the fourth but couldn’t complete the comeback. Starter Carlos Carrasco went 3.0 innings with four earned on six hits and a walk.
Taijuan Walker will take the mound for the start on Wednesday. Over his 27 starts so far Walker is 12-5 with a 3.53 ERA. In 148.0 innings he’s managed 58 earned on 133 hits and 43 walks with 114 Ks.
The Marlins are 16-38 in their last 54 overall and 7-24 in their last 31 versus the NL East. Miami is 2-7 in their last nine in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Mets are 9-2 in their last 11 Wednesday games and 36-16 in their last 52 versus the NL East. New York is 39-18 in their last 57 at home.
PICK: I’m going to try the Marlins here. Luzardo has done well over his last two starts. In that span he’s got three earned on eight hits and two walks in 12.2 innings of work. As for Walker, he’s managed seven earned in 20.1 innings over his last three starts, so he’s on a nice run as well. We should have a fun starter matchup here, and if the Marlins can get the bats going I think they’ll be in line for a potential W.
