New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 6/9/2021

The New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins meet in MLB action from Target Field on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees will look to build on their 8-4 win over the Twins from Tuesday night. Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge each had two RBIs with Sanchez belting a solo home run while Miguel Andujar also added a solo home run. DJ LeMahieu went 2 for 6 with a double and an RBI and Brett Gardner added an RBI as well while Rougned Odor added a double of his own. Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton each had a pair of hits while Gio Urhsela and Clint Frazier each had a base hit as well to finish off the offense for the Yankees in the win. Jordan Montgomery gave up three runs on eight hits while striking out six over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jonathan Loaisiga picked up the win in relief to improve to 5-2 on the year. Gerrit Cole will start here and is 6-3 with a 2.26 ERA and 104 strikeouts this season. This will be Cole’s second career start against Minnesota.

The Minnesota Twins will look to bounce back from a disappointing loss to the Yankees on Tuesday. Ryan Jeffers had a double and two RBIs while Rob Refsnyder added a double and an RBI as well with both Refsnyder and Jeffers each having a pair of hits in the loss. Trevor Larnach added a pair of hits as well while Andrelton Simmons, Alex Kirilloff, Miguel Sano and Josh Donaldson each had a base hit to cap off the offense for the Twins in the loss. Michael Pineda gave up two runs on four hits while striking out a pair over 4.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Taylor Rogers took the loss in relief to fall to 2-3 on the year. Randy Dobnak will start here and is 1-5 with a 6.19 ERA and 22 strikeouts this season. This will be Dobnak’s first career start against the Yankees.

New York is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 2-7 in their last 9 games as a favorite while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games as a road favorite. Minnesota is 5-13 in their last 18 games as an underdog and 1-4 in their last 5 Wednesday games while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 games as an underdog. New York is 64-21 in the last 85 meetings between these two teams and 37-16 in the last 53 meetings between these two teams in Minnesota.

I get the allure of the plus money with a home dog and we all know the talent that the Twins have on that roster. However, the Twins continue to be the most disappointing team in the majors this season and the losses continue to pile up at a fast rate. I think Cole does what Cole does and shuts down the Twins here, so I’ll back the Yankees on the run line in this one.
