New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 7/6/2021

The New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners meet Tuesday in MLB action from T-Mobile Park. New York is coming off a weekend series versus the Mets. The Yankees put up just one win in three games during that set. As for Seattle, they played the Rangers over the weekend. The Mariners won two of three in that one. New York’s skid continued over the weekend, as they lost 8-3 Saturday to the Mets. The Yankees lost again Sunday in game one, but then notched a 4-2 win in the nightcap. Starting pitcher Nestor Cortes put up 3.1 innings with two hits and one earned there.

For the starter job in the Tuesday game, the Yankees are going with Jameson Taillon. Across his 69.2 innings this year, Taillon has 74 hits, 42 earned runs, 14 homers allowed, 21 walks, 73 Ks and a 5.43 ERA.

Over on the Mariners’ side, they fell 7-3 to the Rangers on Saturday but otherwise won 5-4 Friday and 4-1 in the Sunday game. Finale starter Chris Flexen managed 6.0 innings with four hits and one earned run.

In the starter slot for the Tuesday game, the Mariners will go with Justus Sheffield. Over his 72.0 innings this year, Sheffield has 91 hits, 54 runs (47 earned), 13 homers allowed, 32 walks, 57 hits and a 5.88 ERA.

The Yankees are 44-21 in their last 65 Tuesday games and 2-7 in their last nine overall. New York is 2-7 in their last nine on grass and 1-5 in their last six versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Mariners are 6-1 in their last seven versus the AL East and 5-1 in their last six in game one of a series. Seattle is 7-2 in their last nine home games and 7-3 in their last 10 after a win.

PICK: I’m going to take a shot on the Mariners, so long as Sheffield can notch a good outing. He’s been erratic lately however, with 14 earned in 13.1 innings over his last three starts. Taillon is coming off a bad start himself (five earned on nine hits in 5.1 innings) and needs a bounce-back as well. This one could get messy, but I think Seattle has a decent enough chance.
