Oakland Athletics vs. San Diego Padres MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 7/27/2021

The Oakland A’s and the San Diego Padres meet in MLB action from Petco Park on Tuesday night.

The Oakland A’s will look to bounce back from a 4-3 loss at the hands of the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Matt Olson and Seth Brown each had a solo home run while Stephen Piscotty had a double and an RBI to make up the rest of the scoring for the A’s in the loss. Ramon Laureano, Matt Chapman and Mitch Moreland each had a base hit to finish off the offense for the A’s in the defeat. Cole Irvin took the loss, falling to 7-9 on the year after allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out three over four innings of work. James Kaprielian will start here and is 5-3 with a 2.65 ERA and 73 strikeouts this season.

The San Diego Padres will try to rebound from their 9-3 loss at the hands of the Miami Marlins in their last game. Brian O’Grady had a solo home run while Eric Hosmer and Manny Machado each had an RBI as well with Machado going 2 for 4 at the dish to make up the rest of the scoring for the Padres. Jurickson Profar added a double to finish off the Padres’ offense as San Diego had just five hits as a team in the loss. Yu Darvish took the loss, falling to 7-5 on the year after allowing four runs on five hits while striking out six over five innings of work. The Padres did not have a starting pitcher announced at the time that this article was posted.

Oakland is 8-3 in their last 11 interleague games and 11-2 in their last 13 games following an off day while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games following a loss. San Diego is 25-9 in their last 34 home games and 9-0 in their last 9 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 interleague games.

The Padres can be a tough out at home, especially in a pitcher’s park and I’m not completely sold on James Kaprielian is we’re being honest. However, this is a pretty good price considering it’s the Oakland A’s we’re talking about and the A’s are more than capable of taking it to San Diego here. I think this is going to be a battle, but I think the value is with Oakland in this spot.
