The Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics meet Thursday in MLB action from O.co Coliseum. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The A’s took a three-run win in the Tuesday matchup, then in game two Oakland kept it going with a tight victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Seattle couldn’t get much of anything going on just one hit in the Tuesday matchup, eventually falling 4-1. On Wednesday, the Mariners gave up two runs in the seventh and fell 2-1. Starter Robbie Ray lasted 6.0 innings with three hits and three walks.
For the Thursday starting role, the Mariners will go with George Kirby. In his 22 starts so far Kirby is 7-4 with a 2.98 ERA. In 117.2 innings total he has 39 earned on 117 hits and 15 walks with 123 Ks.
Over on the A’s side, they posted all their runs in the fifth inning during the Tuesday win. On Wednesday, Oakland out-hit the Mariners 6-4 in the victory. Starting pitcher James Kaprielian put up 7.0 clean frames with two hits and a walk alongside six Ks.
Starter for the Thursday game will be the A’s Adrian Martinez. In his nine starts so far Martinez is 4-5 with a 5.77 ERA. In 43.2 innings he’s managed 28 earned on 51 hits and 15 walks with 37 Ks.
Seattle is 6-1 in their last seven Thursday games and the over is 10-1-2 in their last 13 in game three of a series. The over is 11-4-1 in the Mariners’ last 16 versus the AL West.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 6-2 in their last eight in game three of a series and 20-46 in their last 66 at home. Oakland is 0-5 in their last five Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to stay with the Mariners but the line’s too thick to mess with. Kirby has a couple of good starts under his belt lately. In his last pair, Kirby has managed just two earned over 12.0 innings on seven hits and one walk. He’s only 1-1 in those two, though. As for Martinez, he’s struggled over his last pair with 11 earned on 18 hits and four walks in 8.2 innings during two losses. I don’t think Martinez will do too badly here but it’s Seattle’s game to win if they play well.
