The Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet Wednesday in MLB action from PNC Park. This will be the final installment in a three-game series. The Pirates took a five-run win on Monday, then in game two Pittsburgh kept it up with another victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Cincinnati had a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth on Monday but couldn’t hold it in an eventual 8-3 loss. In the Tuesday game, the Reds were out-hit 7-6 in a 4-1 defeat. Hunter Greene went 6.0 clean frames in the start with four hits, three walks and 10 Ks.
For the starter job in the Wednesday matchup, the Reds are sending out Luis Cessa. In 44 games (eight starts) this year Cessa is 4-4 with a 4.78 ERA. In 69.2 innings he has 53 Ks.

Over on the Pirates’ side, they notched 13 team hits on the way to the win in the Monday opener. In the Tuesday game Pittsburgh posted three runs in the seventh during the win. Starter Mitch Keller put up 5.0 innings with one earned on five hits and three walks.

Bryse Wilson will take the mound for the start on Wednesday. Over his 23 games (19 starts) this year Wilson is 3-9 with a 5.95 ERA. In 104.1 innings total he has 69 earned on 126 hits and 29 walks with 72 Ks.

The Reds are 7-23 in their last 30 Wednesday games and 3-13 in their last 16 versus the NL Central. Cincinnati is 0-4 in their last four in game three of a series.

Meanwhile, the Pirates are 15-41 in the last 56 Wednesday games and 21-54 in their last 75 in game three of a series. Pittsburgh is 4-15 in their last 19 at home.

PICK: I’m going to try the Reds, but probably staying away. Cessa has a couple of decent starts under his belt lately: in his last pair he has 9.2 combined frames with two earned on seven hits and six walks. As for Wilson, he’s got six earned over his last two starts in 10.1 innings on nine hits and three walks. This one could get out of hand if neither starter is on, so it should be an interesting matchup.
