The Colorado Rockies and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet Wednesday in MLB action from PNC Park. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The Pirates took a win on Monday, then in the Tuesday game two Colorado evened it up with an extra-innings victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Colorado couldn’t find much offense on seven hits in the Monday game and ended up losing 2-1. In the Tuesday game two, the Rockies flipped things around in a 2-1 win in 10 innings. Starter Kyle Freeland put up 4.1 innings with one earned on two hits and two walks.

Ryan Feltner will take the mound for the Rockies Wednesday. This year Feltner is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA and seven strikeouts.

Over on the Pirates’ side, they got a nice start out of JT Brubaker (6.2 innings; zero earned) in the Monday win. On Tuesday, Pittsburgh had five hits in the loss. Roansy Contreras lasted 5.0 clean innings in the start with three hits and two walks.

Starting pitcher for the Pirates on Wednesday will be Zach Thompson. In his eight games (seven starts) this year Thompson is 2-4 with a 4.88 ERA. In 31.1 innings Thompson has 17 earned, 32 hits, 14 walks and 24 Ks.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Pirates. Thompson has been pretty solid in his last few starts; he’s got 16.0 innings in his last trio with one earned on eight hits and four walks. He’s just 1-1 in that time and 2-4 overall though, so Pittsburgh is going to need to provide some offensive support in the finale. If they can get the bats going and back up Thompson with a good bullpen outing I think Pittsburgh will be okay.
