The Milwaukee Brewers and the San Diego Padres meet Monday in MLB action from Petco Park. Milwaukee is fresh off a series versus the Nationals. The Brewers won the Friday and Saturday games in that set, then on Sunday Milwaukee fell by six runs. As for San Diego, they played San Francisco in their last series. The Padres won the first pair in that series, then on Sunday San Diego finished off the sweep with a blowout victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
The Brewers didn’t have much trouble against the Nationals Friday with a 7-0 win, or Saturday with a 5-1 win. On Sunday, Milwaukee gave up six runs in the fourth on the way to an 8-2 loss. Starter Freddy Peralta finished on 3.0 innings with five earned, six hits and a walk.
For the starter gig in the Monday game, the Brewers are sending out Adrian Houser. In seven starts so far Houser has a 3.22 ERA and a 3-4 record. Across 36.1 innings total he’s got 32 hits, 13 earned, 17 walks and 31 Ks.
Over on the Padres’ side, they eked out a win 8-7 in the Friday game versus the Giants, and again 2-1 in the Saturday game. On Sunday, San Diego posted 17 hits in a 10-1 blowout victory. Starter MacKenzie Gore finished with 6.0 innings, one earned, three hits and two walks.
As the starting pitcher for the Monday opener, San Diego will roll with Nick Martinez. In seven games (six starts) this year Martinez is 2-2 with a 3.89 ERA. He’s posted 34.2 innings with 15 earned, 31 hits, 15 walks and 36 Ks.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Brewers. Houser has had some ups and downs over his last two starts, but there’s good news. He’s 0-2 in that time but hasn’t been terrible with three earned in 10.0 innings, 10 hits and six walks combined. Outside of a couple spots lately, the Brewers offense has been solid. Milwaukee is going to need to deliver some support Houser’s way, but I think they’ll be okay in the end.
