The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Francisco Giants meet Wednesday in MLB action from Oracle Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. In the Tuesday opener, San Francisco powered out a victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Arizona played the Dodgers over the weekend, winning Saturday but otherwise losing the other pair. On Tuesday versus the Giants, the Diamondbacks threatened a late comeback but couldn’t bridge the gap in a 6-4 loss. Luke Weaver put up 4.0 innings with one earned on four walks and three hits in the start.

For the starter gig in the Wednesday game the Diamondbacks will send out Merrill Kelly. This year over 153.0 innings Kelly has 160 hits, 82 runs (78 earned), 21 homers allowed, 37 walks, 126 Ks and a 4.59 ERA.

Over on the Giants’ side, they played the Rockies over the weekend and managed a three-game sweep. On Tuesday San Francisco notched four runs in the sixth inning and hung on for the win. Starter Logan Webb lasted 5.0 clean frames with four hits and two walks.

Starter for the Wednesday game will be the Giants’ Alex Wood. In his 132.2 frames this year Wood has 122 hits, 63 runs (59 earned), 14 homers allowed, 39 walks, 146 Ks and a 4.00 ERA.

The Diamondbacks are 6-15 in their last 21 Wednesday games and 35-93 in their last 128 overall. Arizona is 14-43 in their last 57 versus the NL West as well.

Meanwhile, the Giants are 14-3 in their last 17 in game two of a series and 40-13 in their last 53 versus a right-handed starter. San Francisco is also 22-9 in their last 31 Wednesday games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with San Francisco. Wood has been doing well over his last five outings, giving up two or fewer earned in each. He’s coming off 4.0 innings at Coors Field with two earned on six hits. As for Kelly, he’s been rough lately with 15 earned on 28 hits, five homers and five walks in his last three games. If Kelly can’t make a quick turnaround here he won’t last very long.
