Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 6/9/2021

The Seattle Mariners and the Detroit Tigers meet Wednesday in MLB action from Comerica Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game series between these teams this week. In the Tuesday opener, the Tigers posted a two-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Seattle played the Angels over the weekend, managing a split in four games 2-2. In the Tuesday opener versus the Tigers, the Mariners gave up three runs in the first inning on the way to a 5-3 loss. Starter Marco Gonzales went 4.0 innings with four earned on five hits.

For the Wednesday game two starting role, the Mariners will send Chris Flexen to the mound. This year over 53.2 innings Flexen has 65 hits, 29 runs (28 earned), six homers allowed, 11 walks, 33 Ks and a 4.70 ERA.

Over on the Tigers’ side, they didn’t have much luck with the White Sox over the weekend, winning just one of three games. In the Tuesday matchup versus Seattle, Detroit got off to a good start and hung on for the victory. Matthew Boyd lasted 6.0 innings with no earned on six hits.

For the Wednesday starter job, the Tigers are going with Casey Mize. Across 64.2 innings of work this year, Mize has 49 hits, 24 earned runs, 10 homers allowed, 20 walks, 53 Ks and a 3.34 ERA.

The Mariners are 20-7 in their last 27 with the total at 6.5 or lower and 4-12 in their last 16 in game two of a series. Seattle is 0-6 in their last six Wednesday games and the over is 8-3-2 in their last 13 Wednesday games.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 5-0 in their last five Wednesday games and 34-73 in their last 107 in game two of a series. Detroit is 76-164 in their last 240 overall and 38-83 in their last 121 home games.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Tigers. Flexen hasn’t been great on the road this year, posting a 8.10 ERA in four starts away from T-Mobile Park. That’s in comparison to a relatively clean 2.67 ERA in six starts at home. As for Mize, he chucked 7.2 innings of one-run ball against the Mariners last month in Seattle. If Mize can get another good start here I think Detroit has a solid shot.
