The Oakland A’s and the Seattle Mariners meet in an AL West division matchup in MLB action from T-Mobile Park on Monday night.
The Oakland A’s will look to rebound from a 4-1 loss to the Angels in Sunday’s series finale last time out. Sheldon Neuse has a team-high 36 hits with 15 RBIs and a .261 batting average while Sean Murphy has 29 hits with a team-high 10 doubles and 4 home runs with 20 RBIs. Seth Brown’s got 21 RBIs with 6 doubles and Elvis Andrus also has 7 doubles as well this season. Zach Logue will start here and is 2-2 with a 2.04 ERA and 14 strikeouts this season.
The Seattle Mariners will hope to bounce back after being swept by the Boston Red Sox following an 8-4 loss in Sunday’s series finale. Ty France leads the Mariners with 55 hits along with 6 home runs and 28 RBIs while Adam Frazier has 43 hits and 9 doubles. Eugenio Suarez also has a team-high 9 doubles with 8 homers of his own and 21 RBIs while J.P. Crawford has 41 hits, 4 homers and 8 doubles as well as a .289 batting average. Marco Gonzales will start here and is 2-4 with a 3.08 ERA and 24 strikeouts this season.
Oakland is 2-5 in their last 7 games overall and 4-11 in their last 15 division games while the under is 5-0-1 in their last 6 series-opening games. Seattle is 2-5 in their last 7 home games and 7-19 in their last 26 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record.
I get the case to be made for the A’s here as the A’s managed to take a game from the Angels over the weekend, and the Mariners with Marco Gonzales on the mound aren’t necessarily a -170 pitcher for me. However, Oakland still has scoring issues and I’m not sure how much stock I want to put into Zach Logue as a starter. Gonzales is a gamer that always rises to the occasion to pitch win or lose and I think he helps deliver Seattle to a win here.
