Tampa Bay Rays vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction 8-9-24 MLB Picks

The Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays meet Friday in MLB action from Tropicana Field. Here’s a Tampa Bay Rays vs Baltimore Orioles prediction. This will be the first installment in a three-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Rays vs Orioles pick.

Baltimore Orioles Betting Preview

This week the Orioles took on the Toronto Blue Jays. Baltimore split the first two installments of that set, then in the Thursday rubber match the O’s took a tough loss 7-6. Baltimore made a run at it with four ninth-inning runs but ultimately fell short.

In the starter slot for the Orioles on Friday it’ll be Zach Eflin. So far Eflin is 7-7 with a 4.05 ERA in 21 starts. In his career Eflin is 59-60 with a 4.25 ERA in 179 games (167 starts).

Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview

Over on the Rays’ side, they played the St. Louis Cardinals in their last series. Tampa Bay lost the first two games 4-3 and 5-2. In the finale the Rays bagged 12 hits in a 6-4 win. Starter Shane Baz gave up four earned runs in 4.1 innings of work.

As starter for the opener the Rays will go with Zack Littell. This year Littell is 5-7 with a 4.06 ERA in 22 starts. Littell is 21-18 with a 4.08 career ERA in 195 games (40 starts).

Tampa Bay Rays vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction

I’ll probably lean toward Tampa Bay. Littell had a rough start late last month with five earned in 5.2 innings versus the Yankees during a loss. Since then however, Littell has looked pretty good with just one earned in 12.2 innings over two starts—a 2-0 run. As for Eflin, he’s got seven earned across 18.0 innings in his last three starts, going 2-0 in that time as well.

On Thursday the Rays came back from a 4-2 deficit with three seventh-inning runs. Brandon Lowe posted two runs, two RBI and a homer in a pretty well-rounded offensive effort. I like the Rays to keep it going, but we should have a fun starter matchup regardless.
