Tigers vs White Sox Prediction 4/4/25 MLB Picks Today

The Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers meet Friday in MLB action from Comerica Park. This will be the first installment in a three-game weekend series. Here’s a Tigers vs White Sox prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Tigers vs White Sox pick.

Chicago White Sox Betting Preview

The White Sox opened up their 2025 campaign with a matchup versus the Los Angeles Angels last weekend. Chicago won the Thursday opener but dropped the other pair in that set. Chicago would come back with a nice 9-0 shutout win over the Minnesota Twins in the first installment of their second series, but then fell 8-3 on Tuesday. Chicago’s Nick Maton managed a solo home run in the loss, and Andrew Benintendi went 3-for-4 with two runs.

In the Wednesday rubber match, the White Sox gave up three runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth on the way to a 6-1 loss. Brooks Baldwin was the lone spark on offense with a solo home run in the seventh inning. Starter Sean Burke put up 4.1 innings with six earned on seven hits alongside one strikeout. The bullpen posted 4.2 clean frames, though.

For Friday’s matchup versus the Tigers, the White Sox will send out starting pitcher Jonathan Cannon. In his first start of the season Cannon did well, posting a no-decision with 5.0 clean frames. In his MLB career, Cannon is 5-10 with a 4.31 ERA in 24 games (22 starts).

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview

Over on the Tigers’ side, they opened up the season with a matchup versus the Dodgers last weekend. Detroit came close in a 5-4 loss during the Thursday opener, then dropped the next pair 8-5 and 7-3 for a three-game sweep. The Tigers were finally able to start winning in their series versus the Seattle Mariners, taking Monday’s game 9-6 and Tuesday’s 4-1. In the game two victory, Detroit’s Riley Greene came away with two hits, a solo homer and two runs. Starting pitcher Casey Mize lasted 5.2 clean frames with one hit, three walks and six Ks.

In the finale matchup on Wednesday, the Tigers were down 3-0 by the fifth inning and ended up falling 3-2 after a comeback attempt. Trey Sweeney logged a solo homer in the defeat.

As starter for the Friday game, Detroit will go with Jack Flaherty. This year in his lone start Flaherty went 5.2 innings with two earned runs in a no-decision. Over his career Flaherty is 55-41 with a 3.63 ERA in 160 games (154 starts).

Tigers vs White Sox Prediction

I’m going to lean toward the White Sox. Cannon did well in his first start of the season versus the Angels on March 29, bagging 5.0 innings, no earned, four hits, three walks and five strikeouts. It was a tough-luck no-decision though, as Chicago ended up losing that game 1-0. The Sox have been pretty sporadic when it comes to plating runs so far this year, so it would be nice if they gave Cannon a little support on offense. As for Flaherty, he didn’t pitch too badly against a good Dodgers team in his last outing, going 5.2 innings with two earned on three hits and two walks alongside five strikeouts.

In Wednesday’s matchup the Sox were deep in the hole fairly early in the game and couldn’t get much going on six team hits. The good news is that the pen pitched well, giving up just one hit and no walks in 4.2 frames. Chicago has been pretty erratic when it comes to scoring this year, with two or fewer runs in half their games (an 0-3 record) and eight or more in two of the remaining three (a 2-1 record). The Sox need to get it going on offense here following consecutive losses.
