Kansas City Royals
The Royals took on the Diamondbacks this week, winning Tuesday but falling in the other two games. In the Thursday opener versus Minnesota, Kansas City mustered just three hits in a 7-1 defeat. Starter Zack Greinke gave up seven earned on eight hits and two walks in 3.2 innings.
For the starter job in the Friday game, the Royals will go with Jordan Lyles. This year over his five starts Lyles is 0-4 with a 4.88 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 31.1 innings. Lyles is 66-94 with a 5.10 ERA in his career over 326 games (219 starts).
Minnesota Twins
Over on the Minnesota side, they won two of three versus the Yankees this week with the loss coming 12-6 on Wednesday. In the Thursday game the Twins managed four runs in the fourth inning on the way to the victory. Tyler Mahle posted 4.0 frames in the start with one earned on two hits.
Pablo Lopez will start the game for the Twins on Friday. In five starts so far Lopez is 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 30.0 innings of work. Lopez is 29-33 with a 3.88 ERA in 99 career starts.
The Royals are 17-37 in their last 54 in game two of a series and 16-36 in their last 52 overall. Kansas City is 15-37 in their last 52 road games.
Meanwhile, the Twins are 5-1 in their last six in game two of a series and the under is 5-0-1 in their last six Friday games. The under is 4-1-1 in Minnesota’s last six versus the AL Central.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll lean Minnesota, but I’m probably not touching this one in reality. Both starters could use a good outing here. Lopez posted five earned in 4.0 innings on eight hits and two walks versus the Nationals in his last appearance. As for Lyles he’s lost his last two starts with 14.0 innings and seven earned combined. In the Thursday opener, the Twins got some great offensive production in the first four innings but only posted two hits against the bullpen. Minnesota may need more late-game offense here, but I think they’ll be good for another win.
