Los Angeles was able to handle the Phillies 4-1 on Friday, then kept it going with a 7-4 victory on Saturday. In the Sunday finale, the Dodgers coughed up two runs in the bottom of the 10th for a tough 4-3 loss. Tony Gonsolin put up 6.0 innings with one earned on three hits and a walk.
For the starter gig in the Monday game versus Washington, LA is going with Tyler Anderson. In his seven games (five starts) so far this year, Anderson is 4-0 with a 4.04 ERA. In 35.2 innings he’s got 34 hits, 16 earned and 34 Ks.
Over on the Nationals’ side, they didn’t have much luck versus the Brewers Friday in a 7-0 loss—or Saturday in a 5-1 loss. On Sunday, Washington posted 14 hits in an 8-2 win. Aaron Sanchez managed 5.0 innings in the start with two earned on seven hits and two walks.
As the starting pitcher on Monday, the Nationals are sending out Joan Adon. Across eight starts Adon is 1-7 with a 6.38 ERA. In 36.2 innings Adon has 37 hits, 26 earned and 31 Ks with 23 walks.
The Dodgers are 7-2 in their last nine Monday games and 74-29 in their last 103 overall. LA is 40-16 in their last 56 in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 0-5 in the last five in game one of a series and 16-43 in their last 59 at home. Washington is 16-43 in their last 59 at home.
PICK: I’m going to stick with LA. Anderson is coming off a solid outing against the Diamondbacks with 7.0 innings, two earned, seven hits and zero walks in a win. He did have a rough start (10 hits; seven earned) versus the Phillies before that, though. As for Adon, he’s gotten better over his last few starts but is still struggling overall. This should be the Dodgers’ game to control.
