The Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals meet Sunday in MLB action from Nationals Park. This will be the finale in a three-game weekend series. Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies out-hit the Nationals 12-11 in the Friday opener of this series but ended up losing 8-7. In game two, Philadelphia posted 10 hits in a 4-2 win. Starting pitcher Matt Strahm went 2.0 innings with no hits, no earned, no walks and one strikeout.

For the starter job in the Sunday finale the Phillies will send out Ranger Suarez. In his four starts so far Suarez is 0-2 with a 7.13 ERA and 17 Ks in 17.2 innings total. Suarez is 25-17 with a 3.32 ERA in 116 career games (48 starts).

Washington Nationals

Over on the Nationals’ side, they scored six runs in the first two innings on the way to the Friday win. On Saturday Washington scored twice in the fourth but couldn’t post any runs outside of that. MacKenzie Gore lasted 6.0 innings in the start with three earned, nine hits and no walks.

In the starter role Sunday it’ll be Trevor Williams. Over his 11 starts this year Williams is 2-3 with a 3.93 ERA and 40 Ks in 55.0 frames. Williams is 40-47 with a 4.24 career ERA in 170 games (129 starts).

The Phillies are 2-6 in their last eight versus a team with a losing record and the under is 4-1 in their last five Sunday games. The user is 9-3 in Philly’s last 12 in game three of a series.

Meanwhile, the Nationals are 44-92 in their last 136 at home and 10-21 in their last 31 at home versus a lefty starter. Washington is 20-63 in their last 83 versus the NL East.

I’ll stick with the Nationals in this one. Probably staying away, though. Williams is coming off a loss to the Dodgers in his last start, but he pitched pretty well in that one. Over 5.0 innings Williams put up zero earned, six hits and three walks. He’s just 1-2 in his last three outings however, so the Nats will need to get the bats going early. On Saturday Washington had some futile results at the plate but the good news is that seven different players got a hit. It’ll take a better effort to win in the finale but I think the Nationals have a decent shot.
