The Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals meet Friday in MLB action from Nationals Park. Here’s a Washington Nationals vs Philadelphia Phillies prediction. This will be the first installment in a three-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Nationals vs Phillies pick.

Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview

Philly is fresh off a series versus the Chicago Cubs. The Phillies split the first pair 6-2 (win) and 10-4 (loss). In the rubber match Philadelphia powered out the win 9-6. The Phillies notched 13 team hits in that one, scoring three runs in both the first and fifth innings.

As starter for Friday the Phillies will go with Ranger Suarez. So far Suarez is 12-7 with a 3.15 ERA in 26 starts. Suarez is 41-28 with a 3.35 ERA in 160 career games (90 starts).

Over on the Nationals’ side, they played the Kansas City Royals this week. Washington lost 1-0 in the opener, then on Wednesday took another shutout loss 3-0. In game three the Nats took a 7-4 loss. Washington had the game tied 4-4 for several innings but coughed up three runs in the top of the ninth.

In the starter slot Friday Washington is going with Trevor Williams. So far Williams is 5-1 with a 2.19 ERA in 12 starts. Across 201 career games (160 starts) Williams is 49-55 with a 4.33 ERA.

Washington Nationals vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Phillies. Probably staying away, though. Suarez is just 0-1 in his last three starts with nine earned runs combined across 15.1 innings on 21 hits and eight walks. Suarez should be able to handle the Nationals batters if he’s on point, though.

This week Philadelphia scored pretty well against the Cubs (19 runs in three games). That said, the Phillies also gave up a combined 16 runs over the last two outings. If the Philadelphia pen can keep things under control here the team should be in line for a win, though.
