Antonio Silva and Soa Palelei fight Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro at UFC 190.
Antonio Silva enters this fight with an 18-7 record and has won 13 of his fights by knockout. Silva is coming off a February loss against Frank Mir and hasn’t won a bout since his 2013 match against Alistair Overeem. Silva is averaging 2.19 significant strikes per minute and has an accuracy percentage of 45.1 percent. Grappling, Silva has a takedown average of 0.94 and has a takedown accuracy percentage of 33.3 percent. Bigfoot is going to look to win this fight the way he wins majority of his bouts, which is standing up and landing vicious blows, Silva, who hasn’t won any of his last four matches, must stay off his back if he’s going to have a chance in this one. This will be Silva’s third time fighting in Brazil, his hometown.
USA TODAY Sports
Soa Palelei enters this fight with a 22-4 record which includes 18 knockouts. Palelei has won 12 of his last 13 fights and is coming off a November win over Walt Harris. Palelei is averaging 2.4 significant hits per minute with an accuracy percentage of 58 percent. Grappling, Palelei has a takedown average of 2.17 and an accuracy percentage of 50 percent. The Hulk is great at closing off the ring and getting his opponent on the canvas where he’s most comfortable. Palelei will make you fight his game at some point and has been quite successful with the ground-and-pound style he’s fallen in love with. This will be Palelei’s first time fighting in Brazil.
Silva simply has not looked good at all as of late and this fight doesn’t favor him due to his struggles when being taken down. Palelei has been on quite a roll and will be hard to bet against even with Silva fighting in his backyard once again.
I have to go with The Hulk in this one.
