Chris Dempsey and Jonathan Wilson fight Saturday night at UFC Fight Night in Nashville.
Chris Dempsey enters this fight with a 11-2 record and is winning 55 percent of his fights by decision. Dempsey has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a April win over Eddie Gordon. Dempsey is averaging 2.63 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 31.4 percent. Dempsey is averaging 2.63 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 25 percent. Dempsey is still pretty much a one-dimensional fighter who relies heavily on clinching and takedowns. Dempsey has a solid ground-and-pound game and has picked up three submission victories in his career. The downside is that Dempsey can be taken advantage of on his feet, as his striking game is very limited. Dempsey is defending 69 percent of his strikes.

Jonathan Wilson enters this fight with a 6-0 record and has won five of his fights by knockout. This will be Wilson’s fifth fight since 2014, and he’s coming off an August 2014 win over Daniel Ynojos. Wilson is a decent striker who likes to be aggressive at times and can certainly end a fight rather quickly if he’s hitting his mark. Wilson isn’t a polished wrestler at this point in his career, but he also has a good ground-and-pound game that gives him an advantage when on the canvas. Wilson should also be rather confident considering he’s never even lost an amteur fight in his career. Obviously, the concern I have with Wilson is that this will be his UFC debut, and the level of his past competition isn’t the best. We’ll learn a lot more about Wilson after this fight.
This is going to be a classic matchup between a wrestler and a guy who would rather fight standing up and landing powerful strikes. I haven’t been totally impressed with Dempsey so far, and I think Wilson has a shot to win his debut here.
I’m going with Wilson to pull out the victory.
