Ray Borg and Geane Herrera square off Saturday night at Nashville in UFC Fight Night.
Ray Borg enters this fight with a 8-1 record and is winning 75 percent of his fights by submission. Borg has won four of his last five fights and is coming off a February win over Chris Kelades. Borg is averaging 1.09 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 56.9 percent. Borg is averaging 5.46 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 73.3 percent. Borg’s game is pretty simple, as his athleticism and takedown ability are how he wins fights. Borg is very aggressive with his takedown ability, dangerous on the canvas and his last four wins have come by way of submission. Borg is possibly the best grappler in the flyweight division. The Tazmexican Devil’s weakness so far has to be his inability to fight standing up, as he doesn’t have great power and is defending just 47 percent of his strikes. This will be Borg’s first fight in Tennessee.
USA TODAY Sports
Geane Herrera enters this fight with a 8-0 record and has won five of those fights by submission. Herrera is making his UFC debut and is coming off an April victory over Josh Rave. Herrera has won six of his last seven fights in the first round and only two of his eight fights overall have gone past the first round. Herrera is super athletic who thrives in grappling and clinching. Although his wrestling game needs improvement, Herrera is comfortable on the canvas and able to maneuver his way out of hairy situations due to his athleticism. Of course, another concern for Herrera is that this is his UFC debut, easily the biggest fight of his young career at 25 year’s old.
This should be an interesting matchup, as Borg isn’t exactly seasoned in UFC himself with just a few fights under his belt. Herrera’s athleticism and grappling ability gives him a shot to win this match. However, Borg is the better wrestler, which gives him an advantage on the canvas in my mind.
Give me The Tazmexican Devil for the victory in a competitive match.
