Shane Campbell and Elias Silverio fight Sunday night at the SaskTel Centre during UFC Fight Night.
Shane Campbell enters this fight with a 11-2 record and is winning 45 percent of his fights by knockout. Campbell has won three of his last four fights and is coming off a April loss to John Makdessi. Campbell is averaging 5.12 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 43.8 percent. Campbell is averaging zro takedowns with an accuracy percentage of zero percent. Campbell is an aggressive striker with a strong kickboxing background, which includes a 62-9 record in that department. Campbell wants to be on his feet, and he has won his last three fights by knockout due to being able to avoid the canvas. Campbell is able to use his athleticism on the canvas, as he has two submission victories, but he can struggle when on the mat. Campbell has fought his whole career in Canada, his home country.
USA TODAY Sports
Elias Silverio enters this fight with a 11-1 record and is winning 64 percent of his fights by decision. Silverio has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a December loss to Rashid Magomedov. Silverio is averaging 4.23 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 49.5 percent. Silverio is averaging 1.52 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 85.7 percent. Silverio is also an impressive striker who can be deadly on his feet, as he has four knockouts since 2012. Silverio has also been more aggressive in grappling lately, as his takedowns have been effective and he’s defending 91.3 percent of his opponent's takedowns. Silverio’s weakness is that he can be sloppy at times defensively, which is why he lost his last fight. This will be Silverio’s first career fight in Canada.
This could end up being an old-school brawl if both fighters allow each other to fight standing up and trade blows back and forth. However, Silverio is easily the more balanced fighter and will probably use his experience on the canvas to gain the upperhand in this fight.
I look for Silverio to come away with the victory.
