Alcantara is averaging 2.47 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 48.3 percent. Alcantara is averaging 1.63 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 70 percent. Alcantara is an extremely talented fighter with great striking ability, and he’s shown he can wrestle his way into a submission. Alcantara is a balanced fighter who is starting to find consistency in UFC. The downside with Alcantara is that his takedown defense isn’t great and he’s very prone to being on the wrong side of submissions. This is Alcantara’s first fight in New Jersey.
USA TODAY Sports
Jimmie Rivera enters this fight with a 18-1 record and is winning 67 percent of his fights by decision. Rivera has won 17 straight fights and is coming off a November win over Pedro Munhoz. Rivera is averaging 6.73 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 42.6 percent. Rivera is averaging zero takedowns with an accuracy percentage of zero percent. Rivera is an aggressive striker who works the body relentlessly and defends a solid 62.5 percent of his strikes. Rivera can also wrestle if he has to, but for the most part he wins rounds by being aggressive. The downside with Rivera is that he isn’t the strongest puncher and has picked up a lot of wins against subpar fighters. Rivera has fought most of his career in New Jersey, his home state.
This should be an interesting fight, as Alcantara is no pushover and is probably the more balanced fighter between the two. However, Rivera hasn’t lost a fight since November of 2008 and is fighting in his home state and will be a huge crowd favorite.
Hard to bet against El Terror in this spot.
