Gian Villante and Ilir Latifi fight late Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Gian Villante enters this fight with a 14-6 record and has won 64 percent of his fights by knockout. Villante has won four of his last six fights and is coming off a November win over Anthony Perosh. Villante is averaging 4.09 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 48.7 percent. Villante is averaging 1.01 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 25.9 percent. Villante is a solid and aggressive striker with nine knockouts under his belt. Villante is a wrestler at heart who is defending nearly 90 percent of takedowns. The downside is that Villante doesn’t have the best of stamina, which is why he’s lost three of his last six fights that have gone out of the first round. This will be Villante’s fourth fight in Las Vegas.
USA TODAY Sports
Ilir Latifi enters this fight with a 12-4 record and has won 50 percent of his fights by knockout. Latifi has won four of his last five fights and is coming off a January win over Sean O'Connell. Latifi is averaging 1.91 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 27.9 percent. Latifi is averaging 1.91 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 60 percent. Latifi isn’t the most accurate striker but is very powerful and has won his last three bouts by knockout. Latifi is also comfortable on the canvas who has four submission victories under his belt. The concern is that Latifi will leave openings to be hit, as two of his four losses have been knockouts. This will be Latifi’s first fight in Las Vegas.
It’s tough to bet against Latifi in this spot, as Villante will likely want a fight standing up, and that’s not good when going up against a guy who just needs to land one punch. Latifi has been on a knockout tear as of late and it’s hard to bet against that.
Look for Latifi to win a third straight fight for the third time in his career.
