Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Heather Jo Clark fight Sunday at the Ahoy Rotterdam during UFC Fight Night 87.
Karolina Kowalkiewicz enters this fight with a 8-0 record and has won 63 percent of her fights by decision. This will be Kowalkiewicz’s third fight since 2015, and she’s coming off a December win over Randa Markos. Kowalkiewicz is averaging 4.4 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 39 percent. Kowalkiewicz is averaging zero takedowns with an accuracy percentage of zero percent. Kowalkiewicz continues to climb up the rankings and could find herself in a title position if she keeps finding ways to beat quality competition. Kowalkiewicz is one of the more balanced fighters in the division, as she strikes well and is a polished grappler with two submission victories under her belt. Kowalkiewicz can afford be a little more aggressive offensively after winning some very close fights. This will be Kowalkiewicz’s first fight in the Netherlands.
USA TODAY Sports
Heather Jo Clark enters this fight with a 7-4 record and has won 43 percent of her fights by submission. Clark has split her last six fights and is coming off a 2014 win over Bec Rawlings. Clark is averaging 3.73 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 56.5 percent. Clark is averaging one takedown with an accuracy percentage of 20 percent. Clark hasn’t fought since December 2014 due to a knee injury, so there’s obvious questions of ring rust. When healthy, Clark is very strong with her takedown defense and is extremely accurate with her strikes. Clark is the ultimate grinder and likes to wear down her opponent. However, you have to question Clark’s form with so much time away. This will be Clark’s first fight in the Netherlands.
Assuming Clark is ready to go and fully recovered from her knee injury, this could be an interesting fight and quite competitive. However, I’m not sure how anyone can bet on Clark when she’s been away for about a year and a half. Also, Kowalkiewicz is the more skilled fighter here anyway and has multiple ways to find a victory.
I like Kowalkiewicz to get the win for obvious reasons.
