Cris Cyborg and Leslie Smith fight Saturday night during UFC 198 at the Arena da Baixada.
Cris Cyborg enters this fight with a 15-1 record and has won 87 percent of her fights by knockout. Cyborg has won her last five fights and is coming off a January win over Daria Ibragimova. Cyborg is averaging 7.29 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 47.9 percent. Cyborg is averaging 1.53 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 66.6 percent. Cyborg makes her UFC debut after destroying her way through the Strikeforce and Invicta FC. Cyborg is the ultimate knockout artist who has insane striking power and has won four of her last five fights by knockout. Cyborg is a name to keep a close eye on moving forward, as her power and aggressive attack makes her one of the better female fighters in this sport despite her lack of UFC experience. This will be Cyborg’s sixth fight in Brazil, her home country.

Leslie Smith enters this fight with a 8-6-1 record and has won 50 percent of her fights by knockout. Smith has split her last eight fights and is coming off a March win over Rin Nakai. Smith is averaging 5.27 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 35.2 percent. Smith is averaging zero takedowns with an accuracy percentage of zero percent. Smith is still trying to find her footing in UFC after a 2-1 record and a hit or miss career overall. Smith has some pop behind her strikes and can end a fight quickly, but she’s sometimes too passive and nine of her 15 fights have gone the distance. Smith has to be more aggressive offensively if she’s going to string wins together. This will be Smith’s first fight in Brazil and fourth outside of the United States.
Overall, you have to feel bad for Smith in this fight. Despite having heart and being highly determined, Smith just doesn’t have much to concern Cyborg. Also, Smith has to gain weight to get to the 140-pound mark. This is simply a lollipop to introduce Cyborg to the UFC fan base and build her up for bigger fights. It also doesn’t hurt Cyborg will be fighting in her backyard.
This is sure to get ugly with a Cyborg knockout.
