John Lineker and Rob Font fight Saturday night during UFC 198 at the Arena da Baixada.
John Lineker enters this fight with a 26-7 record and has won 46 percent of his fights by knockout. Lineker has won seven of his last eight fights and is coming off a September win over Francisco Rivera. Lineker is averaging 5.62 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 40.5 percent. Lineker is averaging 0.69 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 66.6 percent. Lineker continues to impress at just 26 years old and has been very consistent throughout his UFC career. There’s no surprises when it comes to Lineker, as he’s a violent striker who throws a flurry of punches and eventually gets the knockout. However, Lineker is coming off a submission victory and has improved his grappling attack over time. This will be Lineker’s 27th fight in Brazil, his home country.
USA TODAY Sports
Rob Font enters this fight with a 12-1 record and has won 42 percent of his fights by knockout. Font has won 11 straight fights and is coming off a January win over Joey Gomez. Font is averaging 5.55 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 48.1 percent. Font is averaging 1.3 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 20 percent. Font is a balanced fighter who likes to work the body with his strikes and defends a high percentage of his opponent's strikes as well. While Font is improving his grappling and wrestling, he still has three submission victories already on his resume. The concern you have to have with Font is that he hasn’t fought many great fighters to this point, so this will be a big test to show and prove. This will be Font’s first fight in Brazil and first outside the United States.
Font still has to prove himself to me, as Saul Almeida may be the best fighter he’s faced up to this point. Lineker has been nothing but consistent throughout his journey and clearly has the better and more polished offensive attack between these two. Add the home crowd advantage and the fact Font has never fought outside of the States, and you have to like Lineker to get the victory here.
Lineker rolls and may be the first person to knock Font out.
